Susan Murphy, Voice Coach
After more than 40 years on-air, in production, and as a college professor, I created VOSOT to work with young broadcasters and help them bring their careers to the next level. I typically work one-on-one with my clients over the course of three hours as we strengthen their on-air voice and presence to make them more effective reporters and anchors.
Working with young minds, hearts, and voices is my passion and life’s work, and I consider it an honor to share what I have learned as a voice actor, traffic reporter, live host, radio personality, and news director. Success rarely happens on an island, and I am grateful for the opportunity to help others achieve similar professional success and career satisfaction.
Before our sessions I would get nervous just going into the audio booth because I knew my delivery needed improvement but wasn't sure how to fix it. Susan’s warmth and teaching style helped me feel comfortable enough to relax and dig deep.
I absolutely loved my sessions! Before we started working together, I thought it would take MONTHS if not years to help me find my more authentic voice. She helped me in just a few hours!

Susan’s helped me feel more confident with my on camera and voice over presence. She teaches you what it takes to be successful based on your strengths and weaknesses. She listens and helps navigate through the fast paced world of television news. Her positive energy keeps you going when times get tough.
— Raime
Susan always made me feel confident, even when we were discussing things I could improve on. She always made sure to take the time to listen to how I was feeling and my biggest insecurities, and then she helped me through them.
We took the time to really unpack everything that I felt I needed help; but at the same time, nothing went unresolved. I feel like I truly left those sessions having worked through all the things that I felt needed work. She also made sessions incredibly comfortable, and I felt like I could truly tell you what was on my mind.

Collaboration with News Directors
My coaching style is designed to work in tandem with and enhance the work you already do with your on-air talent. When you send a client to me I can tailor the lessons to meet what you see as the reporter or anchor’s needs and challenges. Very often, vocal quality is the only weak link in a newly hired talent's overall on-air presence. Using specific strategies you may not be familiar with, I can do a lot to improve the on-air sound. The writing component will also make them stronger and more confident in their work.
